When hurdling down the road at 60 miles an hour your braking system uses friction to slow down the vehicle and bring your car to a stop. That friction, over time, wears down the brake pads–which need service. Your braking system uses brake fluid to hydraulically actuate the brake pads. The brake fluid travels from the master cylinder through brake lines to the brake actuators. Most vehicles have a computer controlled actuating system to prevent the brakes from locking up your wheel and forcing a skid (ABS).

Your brake fluid and brake components should be inspected at least once a year. At Bernard’s we perform a complete brake inspection prior to any estimate for repair work. The brake pads and shoes as well as drums and rotors are all measured. Hardware, wheel cylinders, calipers, pressure switches and brake lights are all inspected.
