NCT Pre Test and preparation for retesting
The testing of private vehicles (including second hand imports) commenced in Ireland on 4th January 2000. The test is known as the NCT (National Car Test). To book your NCT test use the NCT website (www.nct.ie)
All cars four years and older must undergo an NCT. Test Certificates will be valid for up to 2 years (from the date the test is due to the registration anniversary date two years later).
We take the worry out of your NCT test by offering a comprehensive pre-NCT check which covers all the important mechanical & safety critical items such as: Lights, Brakes, Tyres, Emissions, Steering and Suspension.
Alternatively, if your car has already failed its NCT-Test, you can bring it to us along with the list of faulty items and our staff will ensure that everything is put right. All makes and models tested and brought to NCT required standard, so why not call us now and arrange to have your pre-test or after test service done.
We have the latest equipment in for testing your brakes, suspension, emmssions and headlight alignment to give you piece of mind before you even go to for NCT.
DOE
In addition to NCT Pre testing we also offer pre - D.O.E (Department of Environment) check for commercial
vehicles.
The term DOE test refers to an annual commercial vehicle test (CVT) required for goods vehicles in the
Republic of Ireland. The DOE term refers to the Department of the Environment. The test was introduced in
1980. In 2005 Department of Transport took over jurisdiction over vehicle testing, and the test was then
called DOT Test. In 2006 Road Safety Authority RSA was established, which took over the legislation
regarding the test and monitoring of testers. Commercial Vehicle Testing in Ireland is conducted by approved Vehicle Test Centres
(formerly known as DOE Test Centres). All centres licensed to provide HGV (Heavy Goods Vehicles) and LGV (Light Goods Vehicles)
tests are listed on the Vechicle Testing Network website.
There are 2 main types of test. The LGV test comprises a test on vehicles under 3500 kg gvw ( gross vehicle weight) and HGV test on all
vehicles over this threshold. In general the LGV test applies to vans and the HGV test applies to trucks.
The Test Itself The DOE test examines all aspects of a vehicles performance. In particular the suspension,
Brakes and emission. In recent years the test has been alter to ensure that vehicle emissions correspond to a
properly performing engine and exhaust system. The HGV test is a little more complex as it also verifies
tachograph operation and the presence of a road speed limiter.
The DOE test is required every year and without a pass certificate the vehicle cannot be taxed or used on the
road.
For a lot of commericial customers we provide a service of preparing your vehicle and also arranging for the DOE to performed. Why not give us a call on 063-86123 to discuss your vehicle.
